TWO - O!

2-0
(No, this is not the result of a soccer match i've just watched.)
I've just the BIG 2... is this going all too soon?
Can't believe that's it for my entire teens.
Then again, I'm super thankful to God for all the blessings He has showered upon me for the last 2 decades... the people He has placed in my life to change me, teach me, lead me, love me and mould me to who I am today. The friends that I treasure ever so dearly... sharing our lives together and growing up in the Lord together. Growing up has been tough I must say, pulling through till now is truly and purely by God's grace and mercy. Pray that I'll continue to walk ever so closely with God, shining the light He gave me to everyone around me, loving others with the love that He first gave to me and becoming the woman after God's heart.
The last few days of teens were fantabulous! Went out with some close friends in church on 2 occasions and had loads of good food, fun and great company. :) Oh. and a super nice wallet, super cute pooh, super pregnant giraffe etc... heh. Very like...
But not all's well and lovely on this day though, one class just had to spoil it all. I spent quite some time preparing this particular lesson for my NT english class... trying to make it more interesting for them so that they can learn more effectively. No one's giving up on them except themselves... they just want to waste their time away when people are spending so much time trying to help them. What's the point of helping a class that wants to give up on themselves? Why work so hard for a class that doesn't want to learn anymore? I was so disappointed that I just stopped the lesson and cried. I can't believe I actually cried in class... what was I thinking? ROARS. My first tear in this whole year... on my TWO - O!

It's 9 March.

On this very day nearly half a century ago, a girl was born. Her mother, who was barely 18 years old, went away after giving birth to her; leaving the newborn with her maternal grandmother. The family, being rather well to do, took on the responsibility of raising up this "unwanted" child.

And so this little girl grew up not knowing who her parents are. All she knows is that her father is a sailor and had died in China; her mother, on the other hand, had gone away - where to, nobody knows.

She grew sensible earlier than the other kids of her age, not because of her nature but because she was forced to. Since young, she was asked to help out with the household chores, to cook for the family, to fetch the younger cousins to school, to take care of her cousins and to run any other errands one could think of at that time. She would also be among the first ones to be punished under the rod of the matriarch if anything at home goes wrong. Often, the verbal abuse that she was put through was even more unbearable than the physical afflictions. However, all these hardships were not served to bring her down but to make her a stronger person.

At the age of 7, (Or is it 8? Ugh. I can't remember when exactly. My memory's failing me. Getting old.) she met her mother for the first time. There was another man together with her mom, her step-father. It was a confusing moment. Isn't that the day she always hoped for? The day when her mother would come and bring her out of her misery? But she was uncertain of what might befall... Will her mother abandon her again and run away? How will this step father of hers treat her? No one knows. However, the decision was not hers to make. The matriarch spoke.

That decision has brought her thus far. Having a house she can call her own with the once-reigning matriarch. Hatred has never surfaced in her dictionary. In fact, there is not a single trace that speaks of her unhappy childhood. She is now on good terms with all her family members, i do mean ALL. That includes her mother, step father, step siblings etc. Very often, she is also the middle(wo)man whenever there is a dispute in the family. I respect her for that - for growing out of her circumstances. I admit I always find that very hard and I believe she is there to be one of my role models in that aspect.

We were at One Fullerton, celebrating her birthday over lunch. There she was, seated beside me, putting on her usual radiant smile. Seated in front of me was her mother; she, too, was grinning from ear to ear. Her mom handed her a pair of "red eggs" sealed in a clear plastic bag together with a red packet. If only I can capture the moment of happiness on film. If only... Well, lunch was fabulous. Stories about the past did spiced it up very much. I realised I know very little about her, what she has through and how she feels. I guess it is never too late to realise certain things!

To my Godma:
Mummy, I thank God for touching your life, for giving you a chance to believe and to accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour many years ago. I'm not here to judge or to evaluate your walk with our Lord but I do earnestly pray that you would continue to grow close to Him and let Him lead your life. Sorry for the many times I have disappointed or made you sad. Sorry for hurting you at times. I really thank you for forgiving me and even comforting me in those times. It has been hard, I know it isn't easy, to lug a kid like me around. I know, I can be really difficult at times. Thank you. Many times I really do not understand the things you do... I just cannot understand your rationale in doing some things. But I pray and I choose to believe you have your own reasons for doing so. I love you, mummy. May the Lord continue to guide you and may you experience His grace and mercy in your life. Happy birthday.

happy birthday... lil bro.

happy birthday... lil bro.

i actually almost forgot that it's your birthday today... i'm so ashamed of myself for not being the kind of sister i should be. sorry if i haven't been spending time with you, to listen to what you want to say, to play with you...

it's kinda sad that we can't live together and do many things that other siblings do... many times when i haven't seen you for a really long time, i would be afraid that you would forget who i am... that you would forget that i'm your sister. but you didn't. you would always be so happy to see me. it really warms my heart. it does. though i may not express it in the most obvious ways... i'm sorry for not being there for you when you needed someone to guide you and teach you what to do when you face problems.

you've really grown up... you're almost taller than me now. but it feels like you've grown up too quickly... i barely had the chance to carry when you were little... barely had the chance to play and seek... barely had the chance to hear you cry... barely had the chance to squeeze your chubby cheeks...

but somehow i really hope you'll grow up soon to understand many things... to understand that we didn't put you aside to live with grandpa and grandma for no reason. remember that we're in this situation together... you're not alone. i went through this phase too... i didn't understand why i can't live together with mom and dad.. leading a life as though i had no parents... it's not a good feeling i understand. but all these happen for a purpose. and only He knows what it is. seek and ask the Lord, He will definitely reveal His wonderful plans to you one day...

i pray that you will grow up in the Lord... that you'll truly receive Him as your personal saviour. that whatever problems you'll encounter, go to Him. He will always be there for you. many times human will fail you but God will never fail you nor forsake you. He alone is faithful and true. trust in Him.

thank you for being who you are.

happy birthday.

New baby cousin on Mothers' Day!

"BLESSED MOTHERS' DAY!" (although i dun think any mothers would actually read my blog...) heh. anyway, today has been a super loooooong day lor... and the weather is the kind we long for - if we're at home... it was pouring! and me, who doesn't have the habit of bringing an umbrella out, was drenched when i left church for some mothers' day celebration with my godma and her family.

was trying to flag for a cab outside church, in the meantime, there were fears for being splashed by the fast moving vehicles on the wet road, fears for destroying my godma's gift in the rain and fears for not being to get a taxi on time! oh man... i resorted to calling a cab... it was ringing... i heard some recorded message... didn't catch it... repeated the message... pressed for instant booking... they gave the address.... didn't catch it... repeated the address... they gave the wrong address... waited for other options... didn't catch it... repeated their options... pressed 'speak to the operator'... ringing... then i saw a cab! so i quickly hung up the call... haha. all thanks to my "didn't catch it"s... if not i would have made my godma paid extra!!!

when i popped out the present for her in the cab, she was overjoyed! heh. she wore it instantly... showing it off to her mother, grandmother... i'm glad she liked it... it was bought in the sacrifice of a new hp... hah. well well, as long as she's happy... anything else doesn't really matter to me anymore. she's not gonna get me a new phone but she promised me a new pair of specs to add to my collection! yeah!

we went to this korean restaurant in specialist centre, haven't been there since i was a kid... it brings back, well, bad memories. agrh. this was where i first tried eating raw beef with egg, ox tongues! mind you, i was just a primary school kid! hah. they DID ordered those stuff, offered me some but i just wasn't as gulliable as before... it was ALL SHOPPING and EATING after lunch... *help* bought some cookies from famous amos... we walked over to centrepoint, then to orchard point - sat down for coffee... back to specialist centre adjourned to habour front... had new zealand ice-cream... and the 'wang jiao' kaya toast and coffee... blah blah blah. finally home by evening... my leg really cannot make it sia... limping at the end of the day already...

did i say end of the day??? no way man! my new little baby cousin has made his way to this world today!!! went to visit him... he's so cute and tiny... so... soft and fragile... makes me feel like having a baby all of a sudden... if only i can skip the process before that... hah.

pictures of yu xiang... i like to call him sky... *heh*

remembered the prata place near the sleazy ktv... decided to bring my godma there for dinner... it seems to be quite near in my memory and so we walked down from kk hospital... hmmm. why aren't we reaching? agrh. finally realised that it's quite near when you drive... but me my godma were walking! every other time i go there, j would drive so it seemed so near... but well... now i know! we just kept walking... passing by some distinctive landmarks... made me feel at least we're on the right track... i realised i should be quite good at finding my way around if i drive... hah. discovered new places and found prinsep street church - heard a lot about it but that was the first time i actually saw it... well, this excursion was kind of an exercise for me... will definitely sleep very well tonight!
